4 Types of Gutter Guards for Your Home

Gutters at your home perform a very basic, yet crucial function; they work to carry rainwater away from your home. If water is not carried away on time or correctly, then it can cause structural damage to your home due to the build-up of mold and infestation.

So what can we do to solve this problem? A good solution would be to install gutter guards. Gutter guards are folded or curved plates attached to the roof of your home. They work to prevent leaves, insects, and other particles from entering your gutter system.

There are different types of leaf gutter guards, made from different materials, and they come with different price tags as well. In today’s article, we are going to look at the different types of gutter guards and gutter replacement cost.

Leaf Gutter Guards can provide you with more details on other costs associated with installing gutter guards, such as cost for hiring a professional, replacement costs, and more.

Brush Gutter Guards

These types of gutter guards have large bristles that work to trap large debris, like leaves. There are spaces between the bristles to allow for air to pass through easily, thus drying up the bristles after rainfall.

Cleaning the brushes is required once a year. Brush gutter guards are difficult to clean, and they do get clogged easily. These gutter guards are relatively easy to install and cost around $20 to $300.

Mesh Gutter Guards

These gutter guards function as screens, and they are known for being durable. They work to carefully prevent both large and small debris from entering your gutter system. These provide the most protection against debris, and they even work to hold up ice during winters.

They are easy to clean and require cleaning on an occasional basis. Mesh gutter guards are easy to install and cost $2 to $3 per foot.

Foam Gutter Guards

These gutter guards fit inside your gutters. Their main function is to block all debris from entering the gutter system. They contain tiny pores to allow only water to pass through. Foam gutter guards are made of polyether or polyurethane foam.

You can install these gutter guards yourself. Therefore there is no need to hire a handyman to do the job which can save you money. Foam gutter guards are economical, but they need to be replaced often and require more maintenance.

Surface Tension Gutter Guards

The reverse curve or surface tension gutter guards are designed to move rainwater down to the gutters. They also cause leaves and other debris to drop onto the ground rather than collecting in your gutters. Professionals install such guards and come with a warranty.

They are also more effective than foam and brush gutter guards when it comes to obstructing debris from entering the gutter system. Surface tension guards are expensive, ranging from $3 to $6 per foot. However, they are long-lasting and require minimal maintenance if installed correctly by a professional.
